Australia’s trade surplus narrowed sharply in August 2023, falling to A$495 million from a revised surplus of A$1,351 million in July, according to FX Street. The previous figure was adjusted down from A$1,923 million, indicating a notable decline month-on-month.
The latest foreign trade data was published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday, confirming the reduced surplus. This contraction suggests a shift in Australia’s export-import balance amid changing global demand and commodity prices.
For Japanese markets, closely linked to Australian commodity exports, this narrowing trade surplus may influence FX pairs such as AUD/JPY and impact equities tied to resource sectors.
