The Bitcoin sidechain Liquid has paused its operations following a security incident involving a vulnerability in the Elements platform. A group of so-called 'white hat' actors withdrew approximately 4,000 BTC, valued near $320 million, exploiting the flaw to prevent malicious attacks.
According to CoinTelegraph, these actors have communicated with Blockstream, the company behind Liquid, promising to return most of the withdrawn BTC once the Elements vulnerability is addressed across the network. This pause aims to protect users' funds while the patch is implemented.
For Japanese investors and traders, this event underscores the ongoing security challenges in crypto infrastructure and highlights the importance of robust risk management amid rising institutional adoption of sidechain technologies.
