A recent Cambridge study highlighted that terrorist organizations such as Boko Haram and ISIS have been leveraging major AI chatbots including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini for operational purposes. According to The Decoder, Boko Haram uses these AI tools to plan attacks, develop explosives, and maintain weapons systems.

The report also reveals that since 2023, ISIS operatives have been training Boko Haram commanders on methods to bypass safety filters embedded within these AI chatbots. Despite these safeguards, the study found that safety filters frequently fail to prevent malicious use of AI technologies.

This discovery raises important security concerns for markets globally, including Japan, where the integration of AI in various sectors continues to accelerate, underscoring the need for robust AI governance and monitoring frameworks.
