Google Deepmind and the World Resources Institute have jointly released ForTy, a new global map that categorizes forests and other land types into six distinct classes using satellite imagery and artificial intelligence, according to The Decoder.
The map currently identifies about half of planted forests and tree-crop areas, as well as 60% of plantations worldwide, highlighting both the progress and limitations of this innovative tool, The Decoder reported.
For Japanese investors and markets, ForTy’s detailed land classification could enhance environmental risk assessments for forestry-related assets and support sustainable investment strategies amid growing global ESG focus.
