Google Research has developed an artificial intelligence system capable of detecting high blood pressure using only the pulse and motion sensors found in standard smartwatches, eliminating the need for traditional cuffs. According to The Decoder, this innovation leverages existing wearable technology to provide a more convenient health monitoring method.

In a study involving 196 participants, the AI demonstrated a 65.8 percent detection rate, outperforming conventional in-office blood pressure measurements. The technology is already integrated into the Google Health app, making it accessible to users without requiring additional hardware.

This development is particularly relevant to the Japanese market, where wearable health tech adoption is growing rapidly amid an aging population increasingly focused on remote health monitoring and preventive care.
