The Japanese Yen gained significant strength on Thursday, pushing the USD/JPY exchange rate below the 161.00 level, amid signs of possible intervention by Japanese authorities. According to FX Street, this move came during the American session, reflecting heightened market activity in the currency pair.

Earlier on Thursday, USD/JPY was trading around 162.90, down 0.31% for the day following the Federal Reserve meeting on Wednesday and disappointing US economic data, FX Street reported. The combined effect of weaker US fundamentals and suspected intervention contributed to the Yen’s surge.

For Japanese investors and exporters, the Yen’s sudden appreciation could have notable implications, as currency moves impact export competitiveness and corporate earnings in the FX-sensitive Japanese market.
