Meta's Superintelligence Labs has introduced Muse Image, its first image generation model, which utilizes Instagram photos to create images through an opt-out @-mention feature, according to The Decoder. This feature allows users to generate images of other people using their public Instagram photos without obtaining consent.

The Decoder reports that Muse Image functions as an autonomous agent, leveraging tools such as code execution and web search to improve its generated results. However, the controversial opt-out mechanism is expected to face legal challenges, potentially conflicting with regulations like the GDPR and the upcoming EU AI Act.

For Japanese investors and market participants, Meta’s approach highlights growing regulatory scrutiny around AI data usage and privacy, signaling potential compliance challenges for global tech firms operating in Japan's increasingly data-conscious environment.
