A new public platform named the AI Observatory has been launched to deliver independent data on how users interact with generative AI models such as Claude and Gemini. The platform aggregates real AI conversations collected with user consent from seven existing datasets, offering transparency beyond the selective data released by AI companies.
According to MIT Technology Review, companies like Anthropic and OpenAI currently publish usage data without independent verification. The AI Observatory, co-led by Anka Reuel from Stanford's Trustworthy AI Research (STAIR) Lab, aims to provide unbiased insights for researchers and policymakers to better understand generative AI adoption and behavior.
This move towards greater transparency is particularly relevant for Japan's tech and financial markets, where understanding AI's real-world applications and risks is increasingly important for regulatory and investment decisions.
