OpenAI has addressed a critical bug in its Codex software that was causing unintended deletion of real user files, according to The Decoder. The issue emerged after the release of the GPT-5.6 Sol update, which triggered Codex to remove files autonomously.
The problem stemmed from a cleanup command originally designed to clear temporary folders but mistakenly wiping users' home directories instead. Following the discovery, OpenAI implemented safeguards so that Codex now verifies the targets before deleting any data. Additionally, the software’s full-access mode can no longer be activated accidentally, enhancing user data protection.
This fix is particularly relevant for Japanese markets where reliance on AI coding assistants is growing, emphasizing the importance of robust data safety measures in software tools used across FX, crypto, and equities sectors.
