Scotiabank analysts have placed the fair value of the USD/CAD exchange rate at 1.4068, reflecting a softer Canadian Dollar and an expanding yield spread between the US and Canada. This assessment comes as the Canadian Dollar trades defensively against its G10 counterparts, pressured by economic factors influencing market sentiment.

According to FX Street, the widening US–Canada yield spreads are a significant headwind for the Canadian currency, with the Bank of Canada expected to tighten monetary policy by 14 basis points in October and 37 basis points in December. These tightening expectations contribute to the relative strength of the US Dollar against the Canadian Dollar.

For Japanese investors and traders, monitoring USD/CAD movements is crucial given Japan’s extensive trade and investment links with North America, which can influence FX and equity market dynamics in the region.
