Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) announced that the surge in AI-driven demand is significantly increasing prices for peripheral AI chips. Despite facing challenges in the smartphone and automotive markets, the company confirmed it will maintain current pricing levels, according to KrASIA.

On August 14, SMIC co-CEO Zhao Haijun highlighted that the company’s strongest growth originates from the Chinese market, fueled primarily by the rising demand for AI peripheral chips and the ongoing reinforcement of localized manufacturing capabilities, KrASIA reported.

For Japanese investors and markets, SMIC’s stance underscores the resilience and strategic importance of AI-related semiconductor segments, even as some traditional sectors experience softness.
