Stephen Chow’s latest film, Kung Fu Soccer, emerged as the biggest box office hit in China during the summer of 2023. The movie, which opened on July 11, led mainland box office charts for two consecutive weeks, securing approximately 41% of all ticket sales in July.

According to KrASIA, data from China’s Maoyan Entertainment shows that the film’s success contributed to a total of more than RMB 5 billion (USD 739.8 million) in ticket revenue for the month. This strong performance highlights Stephen Chow’s continued influence in the Chinese film market, following his previous hit, Shaolin Soccer.

For Japanese investors and markets, the robust domestic box office figures in China signal sustained consumer spending in entertainment, which could influence regional media and equities sectors linked to film distribution and streaming services.
