Unicoin has initiated legal action against Uniswap Labs, seeking to cancel the registration of the UNI trademark. The dispute centers on the ownership and use of the UNI mark, which is closely associated with Uniswap’s decentralized exchange platform.
According to CoinTelegraph, Uniswap’s legal team sent three letters to Unicoin prior to Unicoin’s product launch on September 28. The lawsuit filed by Unicoin aims to obtain declarations regarding its own marks and domain names, signaling a broader contest over branding rights in the crypto space.
This trademark conflict highlights the increasing importance of intellectual property rights within the rapidly evolving decentralized finance (DeFi) market, an issue that Japanese investors and companies should monitor as regulatory scrutiny and market competition intensify globally.
