A three-month field experiment involving 133 patent attorneys demonstrated that artificial intelligence (AI) significantly improves their immediate work performance. According to The Decoder, junior patent attorneys experienced the greatest boost while using AI tools.

However, the study found that once AI assistance was removed, only senior attorneys retained the performance gains. This suggests that experience plays a key role in embedding the benefits of AI into lasting skills.

For Japanese markets, where intellectual property law and innovation are critical, these findings highlight the potential for AI to support legal professionals, especially in nurturing junior talent amid evolving technological demands.
