Epoch AI evaluated three prominent AI text detection tools—Pangram, GPTZero, and Originality.ai—using texts crafted to imitate specific writing styles. According to The Decoder, their analysis revealed that up to 18 percent of AI-generated passages were not detected by these systems.
The study highlighted an even greater challenge in scientific writing, where the miss rate of AI-generated content reached as high as 48 percent. This suggests that current detection technologies may struggle to accurately identify AI-produced texts in specialized fields.
