Anthropic has extended free access to its Claude Fable 5 model for subscribers, postponing the planned transition to a pay-per-use pricing model until July 19, 2026, according to The Decoder. Originally, this change was set to take effect today, but the company will continue offering the model within its subscription plans for nearly three more years.

The Decoder also reported that subscribers can use up to 50 percent of their weekly limits on Claude Fable 5. This extension appears to be a strategic move in response to pricing pressures from OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol and other more affordable competing AI models.

For Japanese investors and tech companies closely monitoring AI developments, Anthropic’s decision highlights the ongoing competitive dynamics in the AI sector, which could influence cloud service costs and adoption trends in the regional market.
