Google Research and DeepMind have introduced WeatherNext 3, an advanced weather forecasting model that learns directly from live satellite data instead of relying on traditional physics simulations, according to The Decoder. This innovative approach allows the model to generate hourly forecasts with a resolution of up to five kilometers, which is five times more detailed than the previous version.

The Decoder reports that WeatherNext 3 is expected to significantly improve forecast accuracy in regions that historically lacked precise weather data, including parts of Africa, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific.
