Google Deepmind’s chief Koray Kavukcuoglu plans to release the next-generation AI model Gemini 4 significantly earlier than previously expected, according to The Decoder. The model is currently in post-training and is already operational within Deepmind’s internal coding tool, Antigravity.
The release follows the quiet disappearance of Gemini 3.5 Pro and a notable outflow of leading researchers to competitors OpenAI and Anthropic. Kavukcuoglu also remarked that the focus on artificial general intelligence (AGI), a key interest of his predecessor Demis Hassabis, is less relevant compared to building trustworthy AI agents.
