A recent poll conducted by Quinnipiac University shows that 77 percent of Americans support slowing down or halting AI development until its safety can be assured, according to The Decoder. This reflects widespread public concern over the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technologies.
The same poll found that 86 percent of respondents favor the establishment of independent safety standards for AI. Additionally, 74 percent expressed little or no trust in the leaders of AI companies, highlighting skepticism about relying solely on corporate assurances. Researcher Chetan Jaiswal noted that the public desires safeguards beyond just taking company leaders at their word.
For Japanese investors and companies, these findings underscore the growing global demand for transparent AI governance and risk management, factors increasingly influencing regulatory frameworks and market confidence in technology sectors.
