Mistral has released the weights for Large 4, also known as 'Le Chonk,' a trillion-parameter coding model trained entirely in Europe, according to The Decoder. This marks a significant step in the development of large-scale AI models within the European tech landscape.

Independent tests reported by The Decoder indicate that Le Chonk is both fast and cost-effective. While it scores 26 points in coding benchmarks, it trails slightly behind rivals DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and GLM-5.3, which each scored 32 points. Despite this, Mistral claims that its model outperforms other open-source competitors in coding tasks.

For Japanese markets, where AI-driven automation and coding efficiency are increasingly critical, the emergence of a powerful European model like Large 4 could influence the competitive landscape in software development and AI services.
