OpenAI has launched two new, more affordable versions of its GPT-6 model, named Sol and Luna. According to The Decoder, these models deliver performance comparable to their predecessors but at half the token price, offering a cost-effective option for users.
Independent analyses cited by The Decoder suggest that despite the lower cost, the Sol and Luna models show little improvement in actual intelligence compared to earlier versions. The launch also appears to have been timed without anticipating Anthropic’s release of its competing Opus 5.5 model.
