Thailand's real GDP growth slowed to 1.9% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, down from 2.8% in the first quarter, according to data reported by FX Street. This slowdown brought the overall growth for the first half of 2026 to 2.4%, indicating a moderation in the country’s economic expansion.
DBS Group Research analyst Chua Han Teng highlighted the deceleration as a notable shift from the stronger start earlier in the year. The data suggests that while Thailand continues to grow, the pace is easing compared to the initial quarter.
For Japanese investors and traders, this moderation in Thailand’s growth could influence regional currency dynamics and investment flows, particularly in Southeast Asia’s emerging markets.
