West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures edged lower to around $78.50 during the European trading session on Monday, according to FX Street. The decline represents a 7.4% drop in prices on the NYMEX as markets reacted to the announcement of renewed ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran.
FX Street reported that the price losses were mainly driven by optimism surrounding the so-called US-Iran peace talks 2.0, which have raised hopes for reduced geopolitical tensions affecting oil supply. This development has prompted traders to reassess risk premiums embedded in crude prices.
For Japanese investors, the easing of tensions in the Middle East could influence energy market volatility and impact related sectors in both equities and FX markets, especially given Japan’s reliance on imported oil.
