Anthropic has introduced Claude Sonnet 5.5, a new AI model that nearly matches the performance of Opus 5.5 on knowledge-work benchmarks while offering significant efficiency gains. According to The Decoder, Claude Sonnet 5.5 produces results more than 30 percent faster and costs up to 30 percent less per task, marking a notable improvement in AI operational economics.
The Decoder also reported that Claude Sonnet 5.5’s score on the Terminal-Bench benchmark leapt from 10.3 to 70.6 percent, demonstrating substantial progress in its capabilities. Meanwhile, Anthropic plans to announce Haiku 5.5 in the coming weeks as a counterpart to OpenAI’s upcoming GPT-6 models, signaling continued competition in the AI space.
