Microsoft has introduced MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, a new compact cybersecurity model designed to enhance its security capabilities while reducing operational costs. According to The Decoder, this model achieves a 96 percent score on the CyberGym benchmark when integrated into Microsoft's MDASH multi-agent system, demonstrating strong performance in security tasks.
Despite this launch, Microsoft continues to rely on OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 for handling the most complex reasoning challenges. The Decoder reports that this hybrid approach allows Microsoft to cut costs by approximately 50 percent compared to using frontier AI models exclusively, as only the toughest cases are escalated to GPT-5.4.
